Our Virtual Coffee Time participants discussed the best walks in the Dunbar / Kerrisdale / Southlands. From there, we branched out to discuss walks in other Metro Vancouver neighbourhoods.

Top pick: Kits / UBC!
- From Kits beach, follow Cornwall Avenue to Point Grey Road down to Jericho / Spanish Banks.
- There’s a pathway along the beach from Jericho to Spanish Banks.
- On Wednesdays at 9:30 AM, join the Knox / Pacific Spirit Church Men’s Breakfast Group at Spanish Banks — starting at the eastern most concession stand.
- Spanish Banks up the hill to University Hill Elementary School and Chancellor Blvd.
- And of course there are the Pacific Spirit Park trails. Try the hiking / walking trails called Admiralty Trail & Salish Trail.
Top pick: Fraser River Park / Angus Drive
Take an ambling walk along the north arm of the Fraser River. For extra joy, stop by the dog off-leash park and instantly make some new canine friends. Fun tugboat and barge viewing, too.
Top pick: Close to home/ Dunbar
- For something more vigorous, there’s a nice hill along the old tracks on Vine Street at about 33rd Ave.
- Try Memorial Park West, located west of Dunbar Street between W 31st & W 33rd Ave.
- There are lots of large lovely trees in the area between W 32nd & W 39th Ave // Vine St and Mackenzie St. Balsam St or Mackenzie St. from W 41st Ave down to about W 47th Ave is a good, well-treed walk.
Parks such Van Dusen (now by appointment) and Queen Elizabeth Park (the Rose Garden) are great for getting out into nature.
Feel like branching out?
- Downtown: You can’t beat a walk to — or at — Granville Island.
- Richmond: Walking along the south arm of the Fraser River is beautiful — whether you start in Steveston and walk east, or start at the South Dyke Trail Dog Off-Leash Park and walk west towards Steveston Village.
- Westham Island (Delta): The Reifel Bird Sanctuary is always worth the trip — for the views and the birds! Hours have changed — check their schedule.
- Tsawwassen: Enjoy the birds, flowers and trees around the loop at the Boundary Bay Cemetery. For a bigger adventure, exit via the south-side path into the neighbouring community. Stroll up to the top of the cliff. Take the giant staircase down to the golf course, which offers up spectacular views of Mount Baker, the “other Southlands”, and Boundary Bay. You can find the cemetery on the east side of 56th Ave (Tsawwassen’s main road, running south to Point Roberts).
