Life’s Ultimate Sacrifice

Based on Genesis 22:1-19 – Abraham Sacrifices Isaac

God commands Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham obeyed the command to sacrifice Isaac. God intervenes, right before Abraham was about to slay Isaac, to save him. Life gives us treasures and takes away from us. Ultimately, reality demands us to sacrifice what we cherish the most for the greater good of all. That is how the covenant relationship works between God (the Reality/Life) and us. Sacrifice must be made. And the world will prosper.

Call to Worship

God is with us!
We are not alone!
God is with us in Jesus!
We are loved through his sacrifice!

God is with us, around us, and in us through God’s Spirit.
We are strengthened by Spirit’s Fire!
We give thanks to God for the faithfulness of our ancestors.
Come, let us worship God of our fathers and mothers.
