Karen Brodie

KnoxVan Events is very pleased to welcome Karen Brodie Designs to our next episode of Curated & Curious. Karen is a fabric artist who works to create wonderfully colourful and intricate patterned liturgical art work in the forms of stoles and banners for altar, vestments and sanctuaries using appliqué.

In this episode we talk about the impact Karen’s faith has had on her art and her beginnings as a student in fashion. She takes us around her studio to show us the work goes into creating a stole from design to competition. We also chat about a special passion project created by Karen called “Stations of the Cross” that was inspired by reflections from 14 different clergy and 10 different denominations! She talks about how this massive undertaking has stayed with her and her work.

This year marks 30 years of creating liturgical work and Karen is celebrating by creating a new line of stoles that will be both beautiful and accessible. Watch our chat to find out more about the process and how you can order your own or have Karen create a custom piece.

It has shaped my faith, but now my faith is shaping my work…it is a both and process. They shape each other.
