Debra Ann Danny
August 5, 1954 – February 21, 2026
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Ann Danny, who left us peacefully on February 21, 2026, at 4:11 am. Surrounded by her devoted husband and daughter at Mountain View Manor in Ladner, Debra concluded a life defined by grace, thoughtful work, and an unbreakable spirit.
A Life of Ambition and Artistry
Born in Cardston, Alberta, to Ed and Natalka Edlund, Debra’s journey took her from the landscapes of Edmonton and Calgary, to the halls of the University of Calgary and beyond.
• The University of Toronto pointed to a strong future when she graduated consecutive years with First Class Honors in Music.
• Debra, the ever quiet pioneer, shattered local glass ceilings by becoming the first female President of the Commerce Undergraduate Society at the University of Calgary in 1975.
• Her blend of artistic soul and business sense fueled a versatile career that spanned the oil patch, retail, fashion, and ultimately settling in technology through marketing. Over the years, she helped hundreds of Canadian companies navigate the digital frontier and integrating technology into their organizations.
Resilience and Joy
Debra, a warrior long before her recent health struggles, was a cancer survivor since 1979. She quietly faced a stage four diagnosis five years ago with the same grit. Despite the challenges, she viewed every day as an opportunity to be a gracefully loving and cheerful friend to everyone she met.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the healthcare professionals who supported her over the years. More specifically, the fellow patients and staff, at Mountain View Manor were champions all. Those final months were filled with unexpected joy, laughter, and meaningful connections.
Family and Legacy
Debra’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived and deeply missed by:
Her Husband: Alex
Her Daughter: Natalie (Sean)
Her Siblings: Cathy (Kevin) and Tim (Lynn)
Extended Family: A wide circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
The many visits from loved ones during her years in hospital and care were the highlights of her final battle. They brought her immense happiness and comfort.

Hello, I’m Debra’s grandchild, maybe not a good one because I’m not present due to difficult circumstances in the Ukraine right now. I’m carrying our family’s slavic side through war and injustice but to me its even worse because I’m not able to be with you right now. I want to say that I love my grandma and even though we aren’t related by blood we are related spiritually and our biggest bond was love. Honestly, the first time I saw her I thought I’m lucky that I have such a cool and strong grandma once I found out she was battling cancers, once I found out how long doctors told her was going to live I was devastated and couldn’t believe it. I denied it and hoped for the best. Unfortunately it happened something that hit me really hard I still think of the time I was in hospital with her and talking to her for the last time ever. I still wake up almost every night to this memory I often see it visually exactly how it was. I didn’t have enough time to spend with her unfortunately. I wish I was a better grandchild and did spend more. I’m sorry. She was really resilient. I remember when I told her my name because its a slavic name a lot of people don’t even bother to try to pronounce or just go with second version Hlib. But she was persistent was actually putting in effort to say it properly. I will never forget that. I shared a lot of things with her. I had nothing to hide from her. Her smile, her smell, the way she carried herself was very classic. My mom Natalie is her exact copy they act and talk almost the same, which is cool. They preserve their culture and their beliefs and they accepted me somehow. I’m very much grateful for Debra and Alex accepting me into the family and they became my grandparents. I love them both to death. I will carry on all of the duties of our family and I will make sure that Danny lives on. I promised it to my grandmother when we talked for the last time and I will fulfil my promise. I’m going to be back in Canada soon enough and will continue our bloodline even though we aren’t related by blood . Time without Debra has been difficult we didn’t talk much on the phone but talked a lot in life. I miss you and it’s been really hard without you being on this planet. We all have to stay strong for the people that are still with us today. I love you grandma too much, even if I wasn’t saying it. I know I wasn’t the best. I’m sorry for that, I hope you are with God and may Jesus bless your soul. I love you forever and I pray for you. I will forever cherish our moments together. I’m sorry for not making it to you all and its really hard on me right now as I’m watching it live. I’m sorry, I really wanted to but this life is too difficult. Love you all. Rest in peace.

When I think of my cousin, Deb, the first thing that comes to mind is her ready smile and laughter. I can remember my mom saying about Deb and Cathy, “Those girls can laugh!” And their laughter was infectious. I remember Deb as being positive, encouraging, and an easy conversationalist. She was always ready to cheer someone on, in whatever endeavors they might be taking on. She could give advice and talk about any subject. I remember talking with her about books, career choices, skin care, and of course family. Deb was one who could make you feel special, because she was really listening and taking an interest in what you had to say. I am grateful to have known her.

This was my first meeting with Debra.
I am grateful that I was blessed with a niece that was larger than life.
She will be missed by me.

Debra was a joyful, caring, thoughtful and creative soul who I immensely enjoyed working with over the span of many years in various ways. We had such wonderful conversations about everything under the sun and I am grateful for our short time together; I will carry her bright light and the impact she had on me with me
