About Elisa Thorn
Elisa Thorn is a harpist, vocalist and composer living and working in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the Sḵwxw̱ ú7mesh, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Her music is propelled by two artistic objectives: firstly, how to create music that is both abstract and accessible; and secondly, how to lead a band with harp in a way that does not compromise sensitivity with its boldness, or generosity with its curiosity. Interested in the intersection between composed and improvised music, she is involved with many projects including HUE, The Giving Shapes, and Gentle Party.
An avid collaborator, Elisa has worked with many diverse artists and has appeared on recordings from Tonye Aganaba, Mother Mother, Loscil, Khari McClleland, Foothills, and David Ward. In 2019 she enjoyed a tour to Japan with electronic artist Lief Hall, and attended a residency in Stockholm in February 2020 to collaborate with the Like The Mind ensemble. She recently released a solo project called The Years in Between, is working on a collaborative multidisciplinary project with her group The Giving Shapes and shadow puppeteers Mind of a Snail, and a composition project setting the poetry of her great aunt, Anne Szumigalski.
About the Performance
For this virtual performance, she will be performing original compositions, including excerpts from her recent release The Years in Between. Using harp, voice, electronics, she weaves a soundscape that showcases her unique style as a harpist that explores the colourful sound palette the harp has to offer.

Our Community Partner for this highlight is
Dunbar Youth Connection.
The Dunbar Youth Network is a recently launched, youth-led service that connects youth volunteers from local high schools with local community organizations or residents in need, open to all youth to join and all residents and community groups to use. Volunteer requests can be sent to the email listed below; from there they will be posted to the network’s Instagram and Facebook pages where students can view them and sign up. The purpose of the DYN is to help community members, but also to help youth get more involved in the neighbourhood, providing access to a wider range of opportunities that will allow them to grow and share their talents with the community.
