About the Performance

Since meeting in the Vancouver Opera Orchestra pit, Janelle and Laura have collaborated regularly on a wide variety of concert programs. Together, they enjoy performing a variety of musical styles – from early music and classical to pop favourites and beyond.

Perhaps the most sublime instrument pairing, the flute and harp are perfectly suited to each other. The graceful, glittering yet resonant lines of the harp, complement and elevate the lyrical voice of the flute. Neither of these quiet instruments is overpowered by the other, allowing each to shine.

Janelle and Laura have chosen a program that explores some of their favourite relaxing and meditative pieces that showcase what these instruments do best. This musical journey will include beloved melodies by Bach and Debussy, music written for the stage, and old jazz hits – transporting you from the elegant salons of Berlin to the smokey dives of Montmartre. Step back, take a deep breath and escape for a moment to a more laid-back time.
