About the Kris Jay Duo

The Kris Jay Duo is Kris Jay Bowerman (trombone) and Stephen Robb (piano). Having performed together since 2012 in the Kris Jay Trio, Stephen and Kris provide a unique jazz experience by combining only the tenor trombone and the piano. The warm sound of the horn and the rich harmonies and energetic, rhythmic movement of the piano create a delightful listening experience.

As a trio (with added bass), the group performs shows for concerts and festivals, as well as providing background music for weddings, civic and corporate events, parties, receptions, and anniversaries. The duo is also available for hire.

Kris has performed in various musical settings such as big bands, Early Music groups, Dixieland bands, pit orchestras, and symphony orchestras, but he especially loves the excitement of ‘in the moment’ improvisation that small group jazz offers.

Besides being a fine pianist, Stephen also performs on clarinet and saxophone, and is the musical director of the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra and director of the Delta Community Music School. He has been teaching and performing in the Vancouver area for over 30 years.

Delta Community Music School’s Location

The Delta Community Music School was founded by the citizens of Delta to bring qualified expert instructors to the community.  They opened their doors for the first time in September 1981 teaching music lessons through the school board’s Delta Continuing Education program and later became a registered Charitable Organization in 1983. They have been bringing music to Delta for almost 40 years! Since that time, they have grown to a school with more than 200 students. Thousands of Delta citizens have been enriched by their arts education programs, concerts, and events such as the Thrive City String Boot Camp and the South Delta Jazz Festival. They offer instruction in piano, voice, brass instruments, guitar, bass, drums, clarinet, saxophone, orchestral string instruments, and music theory for all levels, children to adults.
