Linda Ruan – an Encore Performance

Knox United Church warmly welcomes LINDA RUAN & STAMP NETTHAI for an evening of amazing piano and trumpet music.

Named one of CBC’s Hot 30 under 30 Canadian Classical Musicians, Chinese-Canadian pianist Linda Ruan is returning. For this event, Linda is joined by Thai trumpetist Stamp Nethhai.

Linda is a top prize winner in a number of international piano competitions, including the VI Odin International Music Competition, Music Without Limits International Competition, and the Seattle International Piano Competition. She has performed in venues from Carnegie’s Weill Hall and Lincoln Center’s Rose Studio to Guangzhou and Shanghai. Since her last performance at Knox, Linda won First Prize at the 48th Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, as well as Best Performance of the Commissioned Work where poppies still bloom and fall by Rita Ueda.

Linda received her Bachelor of Music degree with Honours and Master of Music degrees from The Glenn Gould School, The Juilliard School, and the Tianjin School, respectively. She is currently studying at the UBC School of Music with Dr. Corey Hamm.

Thai trumpeter Jid-anan Netthai, better known as Stamp, is a fellow at The Orchestra Now at Bard College. He has collaborated with international ensembles, including the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in China and the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra in Singapore. Stamp co-founded the Brassisimo Brass Quintet and attended the American Brass Quintet Seminar at the Aspen Music Festival in 2019.

Stamp’s versatility spans classical, jazz, and pop. He served as the lead trumpet for the Ruam Smai Big Band during an international tour across Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Japan. Beyond performing, Stamp conducts masterclasses in Thailand to nurture young talent, and composes and arranges music to expand traditional brass boundaries. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music from the Tianjin Juilliard School.

Please mark your calendar, and don’t miss these talented emerging artists. Works by Peskin, Kevin McKee, and Canadian composer Kenley Kristofferson are in the line-up. Proceeds after Knox’s operating costs will support Linda and Stamp’s ongoing travel and studies.
