The Endless Cycle

Psalm 8 (VU 732), Ecclesiastes 1:1–11

Life can sometimes feel like a treadmill—work, effort, achievement, and yet the same patterns return again and again. Ecclesiastes observes this rhythm with disarming honesty: generations come and go, the sun rises and sets, and much of human striving fades with time. Yet within this recognition lies an invitation—not to despair, but to step off the illusion that everything depends on us. Wisdom begins when we acknowledge life’s limits and rediscover the quiet gift of simply being alive.

Ecclesiastes: “What Actually Lasts”

The book of Ecclesiastes speaks with rare honesty about life. It looks directly at the cycles of work, ambition, loss, wealth, and time—and asks the question many of us quietly carry: What actually lasts? Written from the perspective of a seasoned observer of life, Ecclesiastes does not rush to easy answers. Instead, it invites us to slow down, notice what is fleeting, and rediscover what gives life depth and meaning.
