Lent & Easter 2021

Living in a Covenant Relationship

Series Synopsis: Through Lent, we invite you to engage in what it means to live in a covenanting relationship with God, with one another, and with the creation.

With each week’s scripture texts, we ask how would our relationships be different if we are to stop the greed,” “remove the cover,” “clean the temple,” “amplify the grace,” and “remember the writings on the heart “?

EASTER SUNDAY

Text: John 20:1-18

Jesus is risen. He is not in the grave. Grave is empty. The Risen Jesus calls us beyond the empty grave. He calls us to join him in the resurrection life. It’s time to leave behind our empty grave and follow the Risen Christ in making everything new and beautiful in God.

GOOD FRIDAY

Text: Mark 15:33-41

Today we remember the crucifixion of Jesus.

*Please note that there is not a separate sermon video for Good Friday. Please click on the link for the full SERVICE.

March 28, 2021: Hosanna to Crucify

PALM / PASSION SUNDAY

Text: John 12:12-16, Mark 15:6-15

Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday are two sides of the same coin. They are two sides of the faith God wants you to have in your life. Rejoice and sing as Jesus comes into your life! Weep and mourn as his death confronts you with your sin.

March 21, 2021: Remember the Writings on the Heart

LENT 5

Text: Jeremiah 31:31-34

Grace God promised to write God’s covenant in our minds and our hearts.  We all have the writings on our hearts. What are they? To be happy, to be wealthy, to be famous, or to live long? To live in covenanting relationship, we are to remember God’s writings on our hearts.

LENT 4

Text: Ephesians 2:1-10

Grace is a gift from God through the faith in Jesus Christ. You don’t earn it, you can’t pay it back, and you don’t deserve it. It is a (free) gift offered through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We live in the saving grace of God through Jesus Christ. We embrace it in humility and amplify it daily in our covenant relationship

March 7, 2021: Clean The Temple

LENT 3

Text: John 2:13-22

Israel people believed that God dwelt in their (Jerusalem) Temple: the center of the universe, the life, and where heaven and earth meet. However, they have turned the holy Temple into a “den of robbers.” Jesus came and cleansed the Temple and said he would rebuild it with the new One. Our old Temple must be cleansed and replaced with the new One. Jesus Christ must become our new Temple if we are to live in the covenanting relationship.

February 28, 2021: Remove the Cover

LENT 2

Text: Romans 4:13-25

Ever since Adam covered himself with the fig tree leaf to hide from God, human beings have played a game of cover-up. To get the job done, to please others, or just to get through the day, we have put on a different persona, a different face that disguises our true feelings, true genuine concerns, and sins. However, God easily reads our hearts. We cannot hide from God. We can let God cover us with the blood of Jesus – the cover-up that makes all other cover-ups fake and absurd. To live in a covenant relationship, we must remove the cover. But please do not forget to wear your face mask!

February 21, 2021: Stop the Greed!

LENT 1

Texts: Mark 1:9-15, Genesis 9:8-1

The GameStop saga in recent weeks on Wallstreet reveals the corruption and the temptation at the core of all human beings: “Greed”. Unchecked greed can destroy us and hurt others around us. Satan approached and tempted Jesus, promising him world if Jesus bowed down to him. Jesus said he would bow down to God only. Every day, we face the temptation to bow down to greed instead of God. To live in the covenant relationship, we must resist the temptation to use others for our interest. Stop the Greed. #GreedStop

Capital Project Donations provide Knox the foundation to build and be a committed member of our neighbourhoods. Decades of fund raising allowed the purchase and maintenance of our building. They supported the never ending ‘projects’ which come with property ownership ~ repave the parking lot, fix the roof, etc., leading to today and greater potential.
